Diary of a Wimpy Kid, by Jeff Kinney

Letter D and book #4 for the A to Z reading challenge I’m participating in (link at the end).

Do you remember middle school/jr. high? I certainly do. Everyone is at a different stage of the hormone swing and it makes for interesting dynamics. If I remember correctly, I was grounded a lot and totally boy crazy!

This book is so refreshing after reading three lengthy intense books before it. It is also refreshing in that the wimpy kid is a young boy who decides to keep a diary. His name is Greg Heffley, and he points out right away in his diary, “Just don’t expect me to be all ‘Dear Diary’ this and ‘Dear Diary’ that.” But that’s exactly what he does and he gives us a glimpse of his life and school days and the challenges he faces. Like any other kid, he deals with self-esteem issues, teasing/bullying, friendship challenges, etc. It brought me back to those days with some good memories and some not worth remembering.

Jeff Kinney is the author/illustrator. As far as I’m concerned, Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a brilliant book and I look forward to reading more of the series.wimpy kid
